The performance of fused zirconia mainly includes four points:


1. High hardness

The hardness of zirconia products can usually reach a Mohs hardness of 7.5 or above, while the hardness of some products such as zirconia ceramics can exceed 9, second only to diamond. High hardness means that it has strong wear resistance, so zirconia ceramic is a good anti wear material. This is an advantage in the performance of fused zirconia.


2. High melting point

Zirconia has a melting point of up to 2715 ℃ and stable chemical properties, making it a good refractory material.


3. Low thermal conductivity, low coefficient of expansion

The thermal conductivity of zirconia is relatively low among common materials (1.6-2.03W/(m.k)), and its thermal expansion coefficient is close to that of metals. Therefore, zirconia ceramics are suitable for use as bonding ceramic materials, such as zirconia ceramics for mobile phone appearance structural components.

4. Special conductivity

At room temperature, zirconia is non-conductive and has a high resistivity. However, in high-temperature environments, zirconia also has a certain degree of conductivity. Using this principle, zirconia is also applied to many electronic devices. Electrofusion zirconia has been widely used in various fields such as wear-resistant ceramics, refractory materials, machinery, electronics, optics, aerospace, biology, chemistry, etc. Our common artificial drills and dental implants also use zirconia as the main material.

Electromelted zirconia, also known as zirconia dioxide, is usually a white, odorless, and odorless crystal that is difficult to dissolve in water. The zirconia electric melting method utilizes a cloth bag dust removal device, which can basically recover the Si element in zircon sand in the form of micro silicon powder (SiO ₂) powder, fully utilizing resources, and belongs to an energy-saving and environmentally friendly production process. The large amount of waste alkali solution and zirconium silicon slag generated in the production of alkali melting method must be further treated for environmental protection before being discharged; The large amount of silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4) liquid produced in the chlorination process is highly corrosive, toxic, and expensive to recycle, resulting in high environmental operating costs. Therefore, the production cost of chemical zirconia is much higher than that of the same level of fused zirconia products.
